Nordhorn

The? Stadt Nordhorn? used to be the largest textile city in Europe. Since the demise of the textile industry, the center has been converted into a beautiful shopping city, worth visiting. The distance is only a few kilometers from Denekamp.

Just outside the city on the road towards Neuenhaus is a beautiful monastery complex called Klooster Frenswegen. The former monastery Frenswegen dates back to the year 1394. The monastic order joined the Windesheimer Congregation in the beginning of the 15th century, a branch of the late medieval renewal movement "Devotio Moderna", which worked strongly in a reformed monastery and congregation. In 1978 the monastery was restored and is currently in use as an ecumenical center. Viewing of the interior is possible after consultation.

In the course of 2007, a so-called TOP will be installed at the monastery (a Tourist Switching Point), meaning that many routes will start from here. You can park your car here and make a nice cross-border TOP cycle route from the TOP to the Singraven estate. Also the Skulpturenweg (Kunstwegen) a bicycle route along the Vechte and Overijsselse Vecht to Zwolle starts here.
